Practicing Mouna(silence) in today’s world

Once we silence ourselves from the commotion around and our physical bodies feel relaxed, we move into deep awareness...

Being silent is probably the most underrated thing to do in our world today, but it has the most transformational powers over a human’s mind. Much of our energy gets expended while talking, particularly unnecessary talking, depriving us of the opportunity to simply observe the activities of the mind & let it settle down into silence. So once we silence ourselves from the commotion around and our physical bodies feel relaxed we move into a space of deep awareness of our true nature, thoughts & emotions, which is when we begin to heal, from within.

Here are some ways to practice Mouna (physical silence) in our daily lives.

1- We can journal our thoughts and emotions when we're overwhelmed.

2- We can practice yoga or any other form of exercise, in silence, without any background music or sound to stay present with the activity.

3- We can take some time off for a silent and simple weekend/vacation once in a few months, close to nature and without human interaction and digital engagement.

4- We can meditate independently for a few minutes by focusing on our breathing or heartbeat right before bedtime and first thing in the morning.

5- We can choose to write to a person as a form of emotional expression, over verbally arguing about it at the moment.

6- We can choose any activity in a day and do it mindfully- eating, showering, laundry, etc.

I hope these practices help you find healing in silence.
