Arriving at Yourself through Yoga

The caption sounds like a profound statement but all it means is, to allow yoga to be a journey of self-discovery and authenticity rather than competition and achievement. I began my practice with the purpose of “forcefully” healing my body and emotions and yes, you can be forceful about healing as much as about contorting.

I would have five good practices in a week and the sixth seemingly unsatisfactory one would throw me into a downward spiral of negativity and I would judge myself thinking, “today was a bad practice day! "How was yesterday so much better?!” “I did the same vinyasa as yesterday but it didn’t work!”

Do you experience this?

But the changed mindset that’s been helping me is, arriving with no expectation. I tune into my breath and let the yoga work itself through me and some days I feel centred and balanced but some, restless and painful. So I hear myself and do just as much as I can.

All your experiences matter and are part of yoga.
